Satan Cast Out Satan? The modern world has been devastated by ideologies hotly opposed to each other but secretly sharing a common organizing principle --- the key to their popular appeal. While each of these ideologies champions victims, each provides its adherents with the rationale for vilifying those designated by the ideologues as oppressors, moral reprobates, or enemies of social progress --- the elimination of whom will supposedly produce whatever utopia the ideologues envision. It is the oldest and darkest human social reflex masquerading as moral progress. Real progress requires that we awaken from its intoxicating spell, and that requires that we hear the cock crow.
